To have a fulfilled life, sheep need lots of space. They organize themselves spatially in many ways - to fight, to give birth, to play, to have privacy, and to introduce the young to the old. Yet in Austria, the minimum regulation for space for an ewe without a lamb is 0.80 m², for an ewe with one lamb is 1.2 m², for an ewe with as many as 3 lambs is 1.5m², and for a male is 1.5m². Frequently, farmers only provide the minimum, limiting the sheep's life quality and potential.
